Remote Desktop Protocol (Windows Embedded Compact 7)
In Windows Embedded Compact 7 (Compact 7), if you are an OEM, you can add support for the Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) and Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) when you configure the OS of your devices. Support for RDP and RDC enables users of your devices to connect remotely to a desktop computer that is running Windows XP Professional, Windows Vista, or Windows 7, or to a server that is running Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008 R2, or Windows Server 2008 R2 with Service Pack 1 (SP1).

Remote Desktop Protocol Features
The Remote Desktop Protocol for Compact 7 provides the following features and functionality:
Windows Embedded Compact Terminal Services Client (CETSC) and the Terminal Services client access license (TS CAL) maintenance tool in Control Panel. For more information about Terminal Services, see Remote Desktop Services on MSDN.
Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) and Transport Layer Security (TLS), Network Level Authentication, and server authentication.
Network Load Balancing (NLB) and operation in any environment that enables network localization, automatic disconnect, and remote configuration.
Unicode compatibility, network bandwidth management, static virtual channels, and remote-control persistent static virtual channels.
Local drive redirection, file redirection, clipboard redirection, printer redirection, local audio playback, local port redirection, audio redirection, and Smart Card redirection.
High-color graphics, custom display resolutions, and monitor spanning.
Note: The Remote Desktop Protocol versions 7.0 and 7.1 offer enhanced performance for 32 bits-per-pixel (BPP) sessions. This feature is available for connections to computers that run Windows 7 or servers that run Windows Server 2008 R2 but only if the client CPU also supports the Streaming SIMD Extensions 2 (SSE2) instruction set. If the client CPU does not support SSE2, the RDP 7.0 codecs are not used when the device establishes a session.
