RMS Add-in for Office does not load

Issue

After installing the RMS Sharing Application the Microsoft RMS Add-in for Office applications does not load. This is the add-in the puts the “Share Protected” button in the Office ribbon bar.

Going to the “View and manage Microsoft Office Add-ins” dialog shows the RMS add-in as inactive.

Managing the COM add-ins from the bottom of the dialog shows the load error for the Microsoft RMS Add-in. The error is “a runtime error occurred during the loading of the COM Add-in.”

Cause

An Office runtime component was missing.

Resolution

Install the Visual Studio 2010 Tools for Office Runtime on the client machine reporting the error.
