SSAS Troubleshooting: Invalid class string

SQL Server Analysis Services (all supported versions, prior to SQL Server 2012)

Error

This error can occur if you are using a version of Analysis Services having the Office Web control (OWC), used for the PivotTable control in Business Intelligence Development Studio (BIDS). The error occurs when the control needs to be repaired or re-installed. You can repair or re-install the control in Control Panel.

Note that OWC has been deprecated for some time.  In SQL Server 2012, the control was removed from Analysis Services. As an alternative, use Excel to browse cube data or the MDX query designer in SQL Server Data Tools.

This error can also occur if the OLE DB provider for the current release is unregistered. You can reinstall the data provider from the Feature Pack download page. For more information about provider versions and download instructions, see http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee210608.aspx
