Error: Unsupported Reporting Services Functionality

Background:

You see the following error message when you try to start Report Builder 3.0 from a SharePoint document library or when you try to view a report in a document library,

Unsupported Reporting Services Functionality

This SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) functionality is not supported. Use Central Administration to verify and fix one or more of the following issues:
• A report server URL is not configured. Use the SSRS Integration page to set it.
• The SSRS service application proxy is not configured. Use the SSRS service application pages to configure the proxy.
• The SSRS service application is not mapped to this web application. Use the SSRS service application pages to associate the SSRS service application proxy to the Application Proxy Group for this web application.

 

Workaround:

The error message lists the common causes to the error message. The following is additional information related to the bulleted suggestions in the error message.

  • Regarding a missing URL and the SSRS integration page refer to the old Reporting Serivces SharePoint mode architecture, prior to SQL Server 2012. Go to the "General Application Settings" page in SharePoint Central Administration.
  • If you are using SQL Server 2012 Reporting Services in SharePoint mode, check the following
  • Verify the service "SQL Server Reporting Services Service" is installed and started.  In SharePoint Central Administration, go to "Manager Services on server.
  • Verify an instance of the SSRS service application exists; "SQL Server Reporting Services Service Application". In SharePoint Central Administration, o to "Manager Service Applications".
  • Verify the service application proxy is configured and the service application is mapped to the current web application. Go to "Manager Service Applications".
