Are you smarter than a 5th grader in creating Hyper-V virtual machine and installing Windows Server 2012?

Are you?

Caleb’s understanding of virtualization and Hyper-V was a surprise to me since I did not sit down and give him a technical presentation or training of any kind on Microsoft virtualization. Yet he seemed quite comfortable with creating and operating a virtual machine (VM) in Hyper-V.

photo He probably learned how to install Windows Server 2012 by being around in my home office after he’s out of school in those afternoons, and watching me building VM images and developing demos. Then I would have gone through installing servers and verified settings back and forth many times. In this Sunday evening, during dinner he stated he would like to have an i7 computer for virtualization!?  And I just wanted to make sure that was what he really meant, so here's what he ended up showing me and I am so glad I recorded it. Incidentally, he had a second thought on my taste of music and decided to mix the music and produce the video himself using Camtashia.

What has amazed me is that not only he’s able to follow the wizard and clicking through the settings, but his confidence in describing the process, his comfort level in navigating through the UI, and his abilities to carry out and manage the essentials of virtualization such as adding Hyper-V role, composing a VM, setting Dynamic Memory, creating a Virtual Network Switch, etc. And of course, most importantly snacked along the way and never left out any cookies. :)
