The new column store index in Microsoft SQL Server 2012 might be the one feature that convinces managers of SQL Server data warehouses to upgrade. Based on the VertiPaq technology that’s already found in Microsoft PowerPivot, the new column store index can increase the performance of data warehousing queries by a factor of 10 or more.
