Windows Phone 7 Series breaks cover
The news is out – Windows Phone Series 7 just got announced at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona and it’s a BIG change. The UI is a massive departure from Windows Mobile and the influence of Zune is there to see. There will no doubt be a lot of discussion around this UI (or UX) compared to iPhone and Android and though I guess I’m bound to say this, I really like the look of it. The notion of organising around tasks makes sense but aside from that I also just like the look and that fact that we’re taking deep, deep ownership for the experience.
Lets see how this plays out on Techmeme today but hats off to the Windows Phone team who did an astonishing job of keeping this quiet for over a year. Even Apple cannot do that these days. Seriously, I’m very impressed.
[update] as Engadget says “ Microsoft is playing to win” …they also have a great set of photos from the event
