Search goes social

Bing and Facebook – making search results more social. When you asked a friend for a pizza recommendation or what move to go see, you get a personalised result. Should your search engine work the same way rather than serve up the same 10 blue links that everyone else gets? If you think so, you think like the Bing team…that’s what they just did with Facebook today.

There is a ton more detail on the Bing blog that describes how your Bing search results are enhanced with Facebook Likes.

Crucial in all of this is respecting privacy so you’ll be notified that Bing is looking to enhance your experience before actually doing it. You’ll get the opportunity to say “disable” or to go and learn more before you decide if you want to take advantage of the feature. There are a bunch of other privacy features detailed in the Bing blog post.

It’s rolling out in the US first and should be with us this week – Bing it on.
