Gmail invites - perhaps time to blog a question

So I use gmail. Its a nice email service - I like the autocomplete on address feature, but still not to sure about the sorting and the multiple steps to trash messages. Plus I just read an article on Gmail at https://www.google-watch.org/gmail.html which was thought provoking at the very least on email features. But I digress.

What I just noticed is that I have 50 invites to Google. I havent raided a Beta2 bug, but I'm assuming because they are expanding the service out. Anyone else notice an uptick in the number of invites? I'm curious if this is algorithmically allocated (more for people who email more, or sign up people who email a lot...I could go on) or just somethng as boring as Google spent 1 billion dollars on new hardware and are expanding the service.

  Yes, I have seen the increase in the number of invitations too.
  I have the account for about 8 moths. However, my gitlfriend has it for less than 4 and also has 50 invitations.
  
  A funny thing is that I used one of the invitations and guess what: I had 50 invitations and now I have 50 invitations. A bug perhaps? Or maybe Google wants you to send countless invitations? I'm curios if you experienced that too (the number of invitations doesn't change).

  They're just ready to expand. Everyone I know has 50 invites now. It's unlikely it has anything to do with "frequent use".

  I signed up about 2 weeks ago, and I have 50 invites as well. I just use my account for testing our email service (to make sure they look right in gmail) so I certainly don't count as a "frequent" user.

  Ignore Google Watch... pretty much everything they say equally applies to every online mail service.

  I should also point out that if you subscribed to the Gmail "news" on the GMail home page, I think Google sent them an invite last week (well all of my friends that were on the list were offered an invite).
  
  It suggests that Google might be launching this in the near future (if they are confident after lots of people using it).
  
  Classic case of "watch this space"

  Fraser - I dont understand your comment - are you saying that subscribing to news alerts in google news causes invites to be sent to people in your contacts list?
  
  ARw - yeah, I saw that the guy might not be totally unbiased, but I did like the information on email privacy. That was thought provoking.
