Microsoft Live Search's principal development manager presenting at RMIT

Lock this one in your diaries.... Hugh Williams was an RMIT associate professor. He is now Live Search's principal development manager at our Redmond, Seattle HQ. Hugh will be back in Melbourne to present at his alma mater on September 20th to talk about:

"the problems Microsoft’s Live Search faced in developing its image search engine and discuss the motivation behind features such as a smart-scroll and meta-data hover. Central to the talk is a discussion of relevance challenges, including using image processing techniques, adult filtering, and near-duplicate detection. We conclude with an overview of short and medium-term challenges for multimedia search" (taken from the session abstract found here)

Given that the next generation of web billionaires will likely be in the search engine game (there's so much research going into 'search'), this should prove a pretty interesting session.
