Re: Instant feedback...

So my tip to PMs out there is to think carefully about what question you want to know the answer to and blog it!

Brad Abrams : PM Tip #72 Instant feedback....

My concern about this tip is that it works great if people read your blog. I, however, see a lot of PM's that want to get this sort of "instant feedback" with unrealistic expectations that all they need to to is start a blog and get that first post out the door. They expect people to flood them with useful feedback on the topic, but that doesn't happen unless you've already established readership or beg-borrowed-stole linkage from well read bloggers.

I think a better way for these folks would be if the Product Feedback Center had a "Question of the day" where each PM can line up to have their burning question asked on the front page of our feedback center and watch the discussion that follows.   This way they don't have to keep up a blog and would benefit from all the people that land on the feedback center that already said "I have feedback to share".

And they can take your blog as an example ;-)

If you look back at your blog for years, man has it been that long, you will find I comment every now and then when I feel strongly about something or agree with what you say and feel strongly about it as well. Now I do not comment every single post but I comment once in a while. One post I was extremely excited to reply to was something you asked something like have I seen changes and improvements in Microsoft since and how things work since blogging started or seen changes and improvements made by my feedback.  Which my answer was yes and I still continue to see it. So also in retrospect I have been thinking not only have I seen changes in Microsoft since blogging but I have seen changes in myself as well is since Microsoft started blogging. The ways I think about solving certain code problems for one. My openness to my users has greatly grown I try myself to get feedback from them in similar ways. Things like that. I guess when you look at it that way, while yes the blogs are great for getting feedback but Microsoft is also leading by example as well as good ways to approach your customers and bring them closer.

Anyway more to your point I read your blog and I read every post, well ok not all of them some I just scan, but hey you hooked me as a regular reader years ago and just letting you know I am still out here. I imagine you have many other readers much like me. Just kind of lurking enjoying the reading but you can definitely expect us to speak up when you ask.

Thanks for the kind words.  Its great to know that the work we are doing also is having an impact on people and companies outside of Microsoft.

    Question of the day?

Marie had some troubles to pick reports for Bug Of Week ( http://blogs.msdn.com/productfeedback/archive/category/9167.aspx )  - how can you expect something to be done daily ?

Expectations of Microsoft PMs is nowhere near expectations of millions Microsoft users.
