Random Hacks of Kindness – Dec 5, 2010
Microsoft, along with ITA Software, CrisisCamp Boston, and the Boston University chapter of Engineers Without Borders, is sponsoring Random Hacks of Kindness #2. Random Hacks of Kindness is a weekend event bringing together developers and other tech-savvy volunteers for a hackathon focusing on building solutions to support disaster risk management, such as during earthquake and flood relief activities; some of the proposed projects for RHoK #2 include
- IAmNotOk , a Android app (hey, maybe Windows Phone 7 too!) to broadcast emergency message across multiple media indicating that a relief worker needs help,
- Disaster Streaming to provide real-time imagery of how a natural disaster is unfolding, for example, showing lava flows for an volcano eruption,
DevLinks, a social network for non-government organizations and volunteers,
- and many more!
The Boston event (one of 20 around the world) will be held only on Sunday, December 5th, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Boston University’s College of Arts and Sciences, Rm. 233, 725 Commonwealth Avenue, Boston.
Consider registering today; this is an awesome way to use your talents to truly make a global impact.
