XP Embedded is Mapping the Oceans
At the TechEd Developers' Conference last week I was chatting to a very interesting software engineer about their device that is utilizing XP Embedded - it is a submersible sonar device that is dragged in the water next to a ship and gathers information on the underwater terrain. This data is relayed directly to a laptop or desktop computer in order to map the ocean floor and natural structures. It can also be used for various other survey tasks, including search and rescue. The device currently runs XPe SP1, but we were chatting about the various advantages of using FP2007 (FBWF, USB Boot, reduced footprint).
The company that creates these devices is called EdgeTech and you can see more information about the XPe device here.
Pretty exciting stuff, I think!
