Thoughts from the field on Windows Server 2008 - Terminal Services and SoftGrid
I've been doing a bit of "remote assistance" for Victor Olaoya (a local IT Pro working in Dublin). Victor has been deploying a Windows Server 2008 Terminal Services and SoftGrid Proof of Concept (POC) for one of his clients.
Now, he does comment on the lack of the 6.1 Remote Desktop Protocol (RPD) client on existing workstations (only available with Vista SP1 and XP SP3) and on his current difficulty getting SoftGrid applications to work with RemoteApp (something we're confident he'll get working very soon). But these two comments are priceless:
"Softgrid combined with Windows 2008 TS Gateway, printing features and ease of delivering applications and administration is very impressive and will compete in the SBC market space in the very near future."
"In my opinion, Windows 2008 is a one stop shop for application delivery and in built high availability solution for the future."
I'm still looking for lots of local stories from you - so if you have something to share, please get in touch.
Dave.
