iPhone supports Open XML
This is pretty cool. I already talked about how there is support for the open xml formats on the palmOS.
I was looking into the iPhone today and it looks like it has support not just for .doc, .xls, .pdf, and .html; but also has for .docx and .xlsx. Very cool!
I saw this in their product documentation: https://manuals.info.apple.com/en/iPhone_User_Guide.pdf

That is pretty cool. That's one of the more impressive iPhone-related bits of news I've seen. Let's hope that support provides some incentive to add the same to Windows Mobile... I'm curious though...Is Open XML support already in OS X (and has it been effectively inherited by the iPhone)? ...or conversely does this mean that it might be retrofitted to OS X? I'm very keen on everybody playing nicely together.Anonymous

I need to talk to my friends at Apple to be sure, but from what I've heard so far this is a viewer that is specific to the iPhone. I'm not sure when there will be OS X support... I'm not sure on the date, but I do know that the next version of Windows Mobile will have Open XML support. Hopefully that will be sooner, rather than later. It's pretty cool to think about. We are only about 7 months out from when Ecma approved Open XML, and we already see a ton of different applications supporting it. -BrianAnonymous

It's been quite a year for those who have been blogging about the Open XML file formats. Here's a look
