Get Office 2007 today!

This is shaping up to be a pretty cool month. Last week we finally had the first public draft of Ecma's Office Open XML format standard released. Now today the first public beta of Office 2007 has been released.

I'd really encourage everyone to head up there and download a copy. It will give you a great chance to start working with the file formats and building solutions. Between the openxmldeveloper.org community and the Ecma draft, there should be a ton of information available to help you get started. Also my blog will continue to focus on the file formats for a long time to come, so you can always check back here too.

    Hey Dennis, I've heard that a number of folks are having problems with the download. I talked to the people running the downloads though and it sounds like they are going to have some updated info soon.

    Why isn't Microsoft embracing P2P to fix the bandwidth problem? There were P2P demos in BillG keynotes, so what is the message being sent here?

    Sounds like Microsoft is more interested in counting who downloaded this stuff, rather than making sure they get as much feedback as possible.

    I can't install it on top of beta1. After the initial file extraction, it tells me that it cannot upgrade to beta 2. Ok fine, I go in the Add/Remove programs, try to uninstall beta1, and now the uninstaller breaks saying it did not complete successfully.

    Kind of chicken and egg problem.

    Do you guys have a script file to scratch an existing install?

    I wasn't unhappy about the jam-up, just interesting to see how heavy the demand was.  I did manage to get in an order for the disc version (now back-ordered to June 21) and that will be in plenty of time.  I am going to turn my Tablet PC into a Office 2007 and then Vista beta unit.  So I have some preparation to do first.

    Meanwhile, I see there is something else that I can occupy myself with, mentioned in one of your posts today.  When Passport is working again, I might download a Vista image from MSDN too.
