Algerian font family

Overview

Algerian traces its origins to the British foundry, Stephenson Blake and Co., in 1911. In the mid-1980s, URW digitized Algerian. The style in Algerian typifies the writing on signs in Spain and countries/regions on the north coast of Africa, possibly reflecting the influence of Arabic calligraphers and signmakers. More decorative than its Latin counterpart, traditional Arabic calligraphy is characterized by an ornamental flavor used to enhance individual characters and sometimes whole pages.
