Manage Server Storage by using Windows SBS Console
Updated: August 21, 2008
Applies To: Windows SBS 2008
In Windows SBS 2008, you can use the administrative tasks to manage storage on the server. In Windows SBS Console, on the Shared Folders and Web Sites tab, Server Storage displays the Server Storage administrative tasks. These tasks allow you to move the following data:
Exchange Server data The Exchange Server data includes components such as the Mailbox Store and the Public Folders Store. You can use the Move Exchange Server Data Wizard to move the Exchange Server data to a new location.
Windows SharePoint Services data The Windows SharePoint® Services database is used to store documents, information, lists, and Web sites that your company uses daily. The database is constantly growing, and it may need to be moved occasionally to accommodate the growth. You can use the Move Windows SharePoint Services Data Wizard to move the Windows SharePoint Services database to a new location.
User's shared data A user's shared folder is the folder where the user’s individual data folder is located. The Move Users' Shared Data Wizard enables you to select a new location for the Users Shared Folder.
User's redirected documents data Data from a user's folders, such as the My Documents folder, can be redirected to the server running Windows SBS 2008 and stored in the Folder Redirection Store. When all files are located on the server, you can easily move the data to another disk when more space is needed.
Windows Update repository data Updates are divided into two parts:
Metadata that describes the update
Files that are required to install the update on a computer
Although metadata that describes updates is stored in the Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) database, the update files that are used to install the updates are stored in a folder on the server. You can use the Move Windows Updates Repository Wizard to move the WSUS update files to a new location.
Important
You cannot move the data files if a critical system operation is being performed such as Backup, Recovery, or System Update.
