Peer Caching Client

Applies To: Windows Server 2008

The BITS peer caching client listens on the network for peer caching servers that are in the same subnet and domain. When a BITS job allows peer caching, the peer caching client queries the peer servers to determine whether one of the servers holds some or all of the requested content. If so, the BITS client downloads as much of the data as possible from the peer servers and downloads the remainder from the origin server.

Aspects

The following is a list of all aspects that are part of this managed entity:

Name Description

Content Integrity

BITS determines whether the content that is served by BITS peer servers has the same properties as content from the origin server.

Core Functionality

In order for a BITS peer caching client to download content from BITS peer caching servers, at least one peer server must be available on the network to serve the content. The client must also be able to receive peer server announcements, to discover available servers. A peer server announces itself after it starts. If more servers are needed for its peer list, the client must be able to broadcast a request for peer servers.
