IPSec security services

IPSec provides a high level of security by using cryptography-based services. Cryptography allows information to be transmitted securely by hashing (to provide integrity and authentication) and encrypting (to provide confidentiality) the information. IPSec provides or uses the following security services:

• Security properties

• Public key certificate-based authentication

• Preshared key authentication

• Data integrity with hash functions

• Data confidentiality with encryption

• Key management and protection
