Troubleshooting

What problem are you having?

  • The certificate template name is a long string of alphanumeric characters in the Certificates snap-in.

  • When trying to use the Certification Authority Web enrollment pages, the following error appears: "The proper version of the ActiveX control failed to download and install. You may not have sufficient permissions. Please ask your system administrator for assistance."

The certificate template name is a long string of alphanumeric characters in the Certificates snap-in.

Cause:  The string is an object identifier (also known as an OID). Each certificate template is represented by an object identifier. The snap-in has not received the full name of the template from the certification authority.

Solution:  Close and reopen the Certificates snap-in.

See also:  Add the Certificates Snap-in to the MMC Console.

When trying to use the Certification Authority Web enrollment pages, the following error appears: "The proper version of the ActiveX control failed to download and install. You may not have sufficient permissions. Please ask your system administrator for assistance."

Cause:  The user who is accessing the Web pages is not a member of the Administrators or Power Users group on the local computer. When a newer version of the Web enrollment software is available on the certification authority (CA), the client computer must install that software. The user must be a member of the Administrators or Power Users group to install the software.

Solution:  Log on to the network as a user who is a member of the Administrators or Power Users group to access the Web enrollment pages and download the newer version of the software.
