Use logged data

Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1, Windows Server 2003 with SP2

To use logged data

  1. Open Performance.

  2. Right-click the System Monitor details pane and click Properties.

  3. On the Source tab under Data Source, click Log files, and then add the file(s) you want to use as a data source.

To specify a SQL server data source, click Database.

  4. Click Time Range.

  5. Click the Data tab and click Add to open the Add Counters dialog box. The counters you selected during log configuration appear.

Notes

  • You do not need administrative credentials to view counters from log files on the local computer.

  • To open Performance, click Start, click Control Panel, double-click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Performance.

  • Unless you specifically want to monitor start-up events, you should exclude times that include such events from your time window because these temporary high values tend to skew overall performance results.

Information about functional differences

  • Your server might function differently based on the version and edition of the operating system that is installed, your account permissions, and your menu settings. For more information, see Viewing Help on the Web.
