Install an additional shared storage bus

Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1, Windows Server 2003 with SP2

To install an additional shared storage bus

  1. Shut down the operating system on all nodes and turn off all computers.

  2. Prepare one controller for the shared storage bus, referring to your storage bus owner's manual for instructions.

Install the controllers for the shared storage bus, but do not connect them to the shared storage bus.

For SCSI controllers, make sure that the SCSI controllers for the shared SCSI bus are using different SCSI IDs. SCSI controller IDs are preset to 7. Reset one SCSI controller ID to 6.

  3. Connect the shared storage devices to the shared bus, and then connect the shared storage bus to all nodes.

  4. Start the operating system on one node. Turn on a second node, and press F8 when the operating system Loader screen appears (not allowing the operating system to start).

  5. On the first node, use Disk Management to assign drive letters to the disks available on the new shared storage bus.

    Where?

    • Computer Management/Storage/Disk Management
  6. Make sure the Cluster service is running on this node.

  7. Create new resource groups if needed and install a Physical Disk or other storage-class type resource for each new disk.

For more information see, "Checklist: Creating a new group", "To create a new group", "Checklist: Creating a new resource", and "To create a new resource" in Related Topics.

  8. Shut down the first node, but do not turn off the computer.

  9. On a second node, select the operating system and press ENTER.

  10. Restart the first node.

Caution

  • Do not run the operating system on all nodes at the same time until you have completed this procedure.

Information about functional differences

  • Your server might function differently based on the version and edition of the operating system that is installed, your account permissions, and your menu settings. For more information, see Viewing Help on the Web.
