Set Job Template Permissions

Applies To: Windows HPC Server 2008

Setting permissions for the job templates that you create helps you to limit the job templates that specific cluster users or groups can use when submitting jobs to your HPC cluster. You can also set permissions for managing the job templates, by granting specific users or groups the permission to edit, copy, and delete a job template.

Note

By default, all HPC cluster users have permission to submit jobs using a new template, and HPC cluster administrators have permissions to edit, copy, and delete a new template. For more information about HPC user roles, see Understanding User Roles.

For information about using HPC Cluster Manager, see Overview of HPC Cluster Manager.

To set permissions for a job template

  1. In Configuration, in the Navigation Pane, click Job Templates.

  2. In the views pane, right-click a job template, and then click Set Permission. The Permissions dialog box appears.

  3. To add a user or group, click Add, type the name of the user or group, and then click OK.

    Important

You can only give job template permissions to users or groups that have already been added to the cluster as HPC cluster users or HPC cluster administrators. For more information, see Understanding User Roles. Users or groups that have not been added to the cluster cannot access cluster resources. For more information about adding a user or group to the cluster, see Add or Remove Users and Administrators.

  4. To remove a group or user, select the group or user name from the list, and then click Remove.

  5. To set permissions for a group or user, select the group or user name from the list, and then select the Allow or Deny check box for each of the following permissions:

    • Submit Job. Specifies if the user or group can submit jobs to the cluster using the job template.

    • Modify. Specifies if the user or group can edit the job template.

    • Full Control. Specifies if the user or group can delete and copy the job template. It includes Submit Job and Modify permissions.

    • Special permissions. To set this type of permissions, click Advanced.

    Warning

If you grant Modify or Full Control permissions to an HPC cluster user, that user will be able to edit or delete the job template using the HPC command-line tools. For this reason, it is recommended that you grant Modify and Full Control permissions only to HPC cluster administrators.

    Note

For information about special permissions and other permissions, on the Permissions dialog box, click Learn about access control and permissions.

  6. To set the new job template permissions, click OK.

Additional considerations

  • To open HPC Cluster Manager, click Start, point to All Programs, click Microsoft HPC Pack, and then click HPC Cluster Manager. If the User Account Control dialog box appears, confirm that the action it displays is what you want, and then click Continue.
