Configuring the Data Execution Prevention Settings of a Run-Time Image

You can change the data execution prevention settings, also called non-execute, or NX, in your configuration in Target Designer.

To add data execution prevention settings to a run-time image

  1. In Target Designer, expand the node of the Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) component for your configuration. This is one of the following components:
    • ACPCI Multiprocessor PC
    • ACPCI Uniprocessor PC
    • Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) PC
    • Compaq SystemPro Multiprocessor or 100% Compatible
    • MPS Multiprocessor PC
    • MPS Uniprocessor PC
    • Standard PC
  2. Choose Settings. The System Settings appear in the Details Pane.
  3. Under Data Execution Prevention Settings, choose Show. The data execution settings are displayed.
  4. Select one of the Data Execution Settings:
Setting Description
Turn off DEP Disables Data Execution Protection.
Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only Enables Data Execution Protection for Windows programs and services only.
Turn on DEP for all programs and services Enables Data Execution Protection for all programs and services running on the system.

Note   To view DEP-related error messages, you must include the Error Reporting component in your run-time image. If you do not have the Error Reporting component, DEP-related errors are displayed as access violations.
