Differences between Windows Embedded CE and Windows XP PPP Implementations (Windows Embedded CE 6.0)

1/6/2010

The following differences exist between the Windows Embedded CE and Windows XP PPP implementations:

  • The Windows Embedded CE implementation of PPP provides a subset of the functionality provided in the Windows XP implementation of PPP.
  • Windows Embedded CE does not support multilink PPP.
  • Windows Embedded CE does not support NetBEUI and IPX.
  • In Windows Embedded CE, PPP talks to the AsyncMAC miniport, and the AsyncMAC miniport performs MAC layer framing.
  • Windows Embedded CE now supports the Microsoft Challenge Handshake Authentication Protocol (Microsoft CHAP) version 2.0, but the user interface (UI) does not let the user change the password if it has expired.
