Devices may include support for the following formats, depending on what media support has been added to your device by the manufacturer.

ASF Video and Audio

Advanced Systems Format (ASF). This format does not specify the codec used for a media object, but rather describes how media is structured in a stream.

This format is supported using DirectShow.

It is also supported by:

The Windows Media Player OCX.

AVI Video

Audio Video Interleave, a Microsoft media container format.

AVI Decompressor Filter

AVI Splitter Filter

MPEG-4 Video

A compression format for audio and video.

This format is supported using DirectShow and the WMV/MPEG-4 Video Codec. There are some limitations to the implementation.

It is also supported by:

Windows Media Player for Windows Embedded CE

The Windows Media Player OCX.

MS RLE Video

Support for the Microsoft run-length encoded (RLE) video codec.

This format is supported using DirectShow and the MS RLE Video Codec.

The Windows Media Player OCX.

MPEG-2 Video

A format first developed by the Moving Pictures Expert Group (MPEG), MPEG-2 is the video format used in DVD Video, among other applications.

Playback of this format is supported using DirectShow.

MPEG-1 Video

A video compression format first developed by the Moving Pictures Expert Group (MPEG).

The Windows Media Player OCX.

WMV Video

Windows Media Video (WMV). A video compression format.

Versions 1 through 9 are supported, including Simple, Advanced and Main profiles.
