How to Configure Project-Level Authentication
This topic provides steps for how to configure a project to use project-level authentication. For information about the different levels of CSS authentication that can be used when staging projects, see How Are CSS Authentication Accounts Defined and Managed?.
Do the following to configure a project to use project-level authentication.
To configure a project to use project-level authentication
Create and configure the project-level account.
On each CSS server that is part of the project staging deployment, create the project-level account as a Windows local account and add it to the CSS Operators group. Or create project-level account as a domain account and add it to the CSS operators group on each CSS server.

Add the CSS servers that will be used in a staging project to the CSS Microsoft Management Console (MMC). For information about how to add servers to MMC, see How to Add and Configure a CSS Server.
Create a project by using the New Project Wizard. For information about how to create a new project, see Creating Projects for Staging.
Edit the project properties for the source server to specify the project-level authentication account. For information about how to specify the project-level authentication account, see How to Change the Project-Level Authentication Account for a Staging Project.
Note
You can only define the project-level authentication account in the project properties for the source server for a project. This defines the project-level authentication account for the project defined on all servers. The project-level authentication account must be defined on each remote CSS server that is defined for the project and must belong to the CSS operators group on each server.
