The Experiment: Give Me Your Thoughts

As you probably noticed the last five posts have been a departure from the typical “tips and tricks” format.  They represent a direction I am thinking of taking for those topics that lend themselves to deeper discussion.  I will still keep the tried and true tips format for most things but feel there are some topics that could use more detail.  I tried to accomplish three goals with this format:

  1. Give one or more clear definitions of the item from Microsoft and non-Microsoft sources.
  2. Show actual usage scenarios with test code.
  3. Give more technical depth and provide references for further exploration.

 

With all that said, my questions are:

  1. Do you like/hate the approach?
  2. Do you have any suggestions on how to improve the tips to make them better?

    Thanks Michael and Don! :) I'm glad you guys dig the approach.  I have to admit it was fun to dig deeper into these things and get into the "why" a little more. Z

    I really do like the approach. My only concern/gripe is that it seems to focus on the higher-level SKUs. It would be great if you could find a way to include the "lower" SKUs.

    Kevin -- yeah, i've been thinking about that, all my prior work was VS Pro and above so there is pleny of stuff at the Pro level.  I'm paying attention to the higher SKU items lately because I found out when I was travelling on the road that many people with these products aren't aware of how to use all the great features that are there for them.  I'll probably stick with them for another month or two then start mixing it up more.  The part I'm struggling with is if I should include Express or not.   Michael -- forgot to put in that I am headed for Performance Profiler and many other features as the series goes on.  My goal is to make the blog/book one of the most both deep and wide in coverage of VS. Z

    Jay! :) I scanned your brain last time I was down there :)  Glad you like the new stuff, man.  Looking forward to seeing you and the Tyson Foods folks again soon! Z
