Coding Faster: Getting More Productive with Microsoft Visual Studio
I’m very pleased to announce the new title of the book Sara Ford and I are working on. The contract is signed, the content is in full swing, and we are ready to rock and roll! I want to thanks everyone who helped out in our title search (https://blogs.msdn.com/b/zainnab/archive/2010/08/09/proposed-book-title.aspx) and give an extra special thanks to Kevin Stevens who pretty much came up with the title in the big thread we had on naming the new book. I still think it’s blowing the publisher’s mind that I decided to crowd source the title :)
Now on to more goodness. I need your feedback on the way we are going to lay out the book. I made a decision early on to NOT put the tips in the order they were done but rather put them in chapters that represent an arc from when you start using VS to when you are done with your work at the end of the day. Here is the rough, high-level outline (with a little commentary on what I am thinking for each chapter) as it stands so far:
1. Pre and Post Installation – choosing the language at fist start, exporting settings, etc…
2. Creating Projects and Items – all the great tips on working with projects and items
3. Getting the Know the Environment – multiple monitor support, document tabs, etc…
4. Writing Your Code – all the editor tips like screen movement, go back markers, etc…
5. Finding Things – the “find” tips to include find in document, find in files, etc…
6. Debugging – all the great debugging stuff, breakpoint window enhancements, trace vs. breakpoint, etc..
7. Using the Tools – any tool windows not previously discussed (this chapter may go away and the material put into other chapters)
8. Miscellaneous – a CYA chapter to cover anything that I didn’t catch with all the others
9. Extensions – Sara’s two chapters on extensions (part 1)
10. Extensions – Sara’s two chapters on extensions (part 2)
10. Resources – a concise list of resources that can be leveraged to make the VS experience better. Mostly links, I suspect, but I don’t want just another link list that no one will read so still struggling with this one.
Thoughts? Hit me with your thinking and if I’m off base here there is still time to make changes.

I think that's a good way to organise the chapters. (BTW, there are two Chapter 10s in the list :).)Anonymous

Leo, Yeah. I'm gonna leave it that way in the book, too, just to mess with people's heads...just kidding. :)Anonymous

Great idea, especially for students who are new to VS.
