Windows Media Player 11 released
As I'm sure most of you know Windows Media Player 11 was released yesterday. WMP11 is of course available for Windows XP in addition to being preinstalled in Windows Vista. As an out of band release for XP, and a pretty major one at that, WMP11 has integrated genuine Windows validation into its setup much like IE7. The integration of genuine validation into the setup process is as easy for WMP11 as it was for IE7. The first screen cap below one is the very first screen of the setup wizard. Because I ran this setup on a genuine system this is the only validation step I need to take.
And once validation has completed the process simply continues with the license terms which further reinforce the importance of having a validly licensed copy of Windows on which to install WMP.

After periodic WGA checks and then the check for Windows Update, what further purpose does this serve? Every time I connect to Windows Update I get 'validated'. Then I download this, but if I don't set it up immediately, then I need to go through this validation again. I have a laptop that isn't always connected to the internet. Last week I was away from the house and I wanted to listen to an audio track. Instead of WMP starting, it then wanted to validate again. Why? What could I have possibly done with the Windows Update since you last validated the operating system. What is your intent here? I've worked in Retail, Customer Service and IT for the past eighteen years and I wouldn't dream of asking someone for their receipt constantly. Microsoft is turning into the overbearing security guard who follows you around the shop, spying on you in an overt manner in case you steal something.Anonymous

I have found ways to bypass Validation, I can help the WGA team fix it. Contact me...
