Deciphering the Gobbledegook

I enjoy following Matthew Stibbe's blog at badlanguage.net. Matthew used to run a computer gaming company and now flies planes. He's also a writer. His freelance writing company handles assignments from several big companies including Microsoft. It's great to see a writer of Matthew's calibre taking time out to maintain a blog. With most writers and journalists paid by the word few are prepared to 'work for free' and commit their thoughts to the blogosphere. However, as I'm sure Matthew appreciates, having a relevant web presence is a great way to showcase your talent. And what could be more relevant from a writer than a blog?

Matthew helps Microsoft by putting our techno-speak into a reader-friendly language. Many of us on the inside of Microsoft are also tasked with finding ways to translate the features of increasingly complex software solutions into benefits that the rest of the world will (a) understand and (b) care about. It's a challenge that I enjoy tackling every working day.

Once again, GapingVoid hits the nail on the head with this recent cartoon that will probably appeal as much to those on the inside of Microsoft as those outside:

Check out www.gapingvoid.com!

That's enough random thoughts. It's time I got back to reading my MAT (Microsoft Acronym Thesaurus)
