Choosing Microsoft SQL Server 2008 for Data Warehousing
The warehousing of corporate data into an architecture from which it can all be accessed is no longer an option for midmarket and large companies that want to be successful. Consolidating the information so that it is readily accessible, and to give the team visibility for reporting, analytics, spot queries, and predictive capabilities is now necessary. Fortunately, pioneers established this long ago and this requirement is met in the field of data warehousing (DW) and business intelligence (BI).

Microsoft Synchronization Services for ADO.NET Orcas Beta1 release
Microsoft Synchronization Services for ADO.NET provides the ability to synchronize data from disparate sources over two-tier, N-tier, and service-based architectures. Rather than simply replicating a database and its schema, the Synchronization Services application programming interface (API) provides a set of components to synchronize data between data services and a local store. Applications are increasingly used on mobile clients, such as laptops and devices, that do not have a consistent or reliable network connection to a central server. It is crucial for these applications to work against a local copy of data on the client. Equally important is the need to synchronize the local copy of the data with a central server when a network connection is available. The Synchronization Services API, which is modeled after the ADO.NET data access APIs, gives you an intuitive way to synchronize data. It makes building applications for occasionally connected environments a logical extension of building applications where you can count on a consistent network connection.

TechNet Webcast: How Microsoft IT Streamlined the SAP Unicode Conversion Process to Minimize User Impact and Enhance Performance (Level 300) – Tuesday, September 18, 2007 9:30 AM Pacific Time (US & Canada)
Join this webcast to find out how Microsoft, like many large organizations, relies on SAP AG enterprise resource planning (ERP) products to manage the day-to-day operations of its business. Newer SAP releases require the use of the Unicode codepage. In an effort to cause the least impact to SAP users and interfaces, minimize downtime, and equal pre-conversion SAP system performance, Microsoft IT developed a process that streamlined the conversion process requirements from one week to 22 hours. Only 15 of those hours were required for the actual conversion process. This process included exporting data through multiple servers, minimizing export and import times, and splitting large tables into as many as 13 packages. As a result, critical import and export times improved, and Microsoft SQL Server 2005 log space requirements were minimized during data imports.
MSDN Webcast: Framework Masterclass: LINQ to Entities (Level 200) – Monday, September 24, 2007 12:00 PM Pacific Time (US & Canada)
In other sessions, we explored how Microsoft .NET Language Integrated Query (LINQ) is used for Structured Query Language (SQL) databases and working with XML. In this webcast, we connect to the data access layer, the business objects that provide the functionality of working with enterprise data. Join us to learn how you can make your LINQ applications really sing when working with entities.
MSDN Webcast: Framework Masterclass: LINQ to Entities (Level 200)
TechNet Webcast: SQL Server 2008: New Performance Monitoring and Troubleshooting Using Management Studio (Level 300) – Wednesday, September 26, 2007 8:00 AM Pacific Time (US & Canada)
The release of Microsoft SQL Server 2008 offers a new framework that ties together the collection, analysis, troubleshooting, reporting, and persistence of SQL Server diagnostics information in the central warehouse. Join this webcast as we describe the feature set for the SQL Server 2008 release and discuss how the performance collection architecture fits within Microsoft System Center Operations Manager.
MSDN Webcast: Entity Framework for Database Administrators (Level 200) – Friday, September 28, 2007 9:00 AM Pacific Time (US & Canada)
The Entity Framework is a new data technology from Microsoft that may particularly interest database administrators (DBAs). Join this webcast to see how this technology can radically change the development of applications from a DBA perspective, and also change access patterns on servers. We discuss these changes and their impact on DBAs and data developers.
