Join the Vista Squad User Group
The second 'Vista Squad' user group meeting took place at Microsoft HQ, UK on 24 May. It was the usual mixture of Vista OS and .NET 3.0 presentations, as well as a gathering of like-minded technologists. Vista Squad prides itself on bringing together both IT pros and developers to share their collective knowledge on Vista and .NET 3.0. Microsoft's Stephen Lamb kicked off the evening with a very informative session on Vista's BitLocker capability. This was followed by a great visual demonstration of Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) by Dot Net Solutions' Ray Booysen, and was delivered with no lines of code actually being written and using Microsoft Expression Blend. Vista Squad is a user group backed by the IT Pro and Developer community and supported by Microsoft. Please join us at www.vistasquad.co.uk and look out for our next meeting in late July.

Making Ecma Open XML an ISO International Standard - Sign the Petition Today
In today's connected world, interoperability is as important as security and reliability for IT professionals. To aid interoperability, XML-based file formats can unlock data in documents and help integrate front- and back-office processes. Recognising these benefits, Microsoft has implemented XML-based formats in successive releases of Office. Both public and private sector customers have expressed their preference for making Open XML an open standard so that they have broad rights to use, without cost, any Microsoft patents necessary to implement all or part of the format. If you agree that Open XML should be approved as an ISO standard please sign this petition, which we will send to the Chairman of the British Standards Institute to demonstrate broad support for this initiative in the UK.
