WinFX Runtime Components November CTP Now Released!

With every CTP, we're another step closer... This release is particularly exciting, because it is based on the final .NET Framework 2.0 bits. You've no excuse now for not installing WinFX and starting to prototype a great Windows Presentation Foundation application! Download the various bits from the following locations:

My esteemed colleague Karsten Januszewski has stepped up to the mark and produced a great white paper that describes the new features added to WPF in this CTP release (there's some great new animation work that's exposed here) as well as highlighting the API breaking changes since the PDC release. We're gradually getting closer to being API complete for the first release - there's probably just one more set of breaking changes to go in that will be exposed in a CTP release in the first month or two of next year, but otherwise we're entering the glidepath - starting to focus on performance and stability beyond all other considerations. It's going to be an exciting year!

    mrlinx: this is not a beta this is a ctp. CTP's are by their very nature broken. With beta releases there is an effort made to fix some bugs and at least get things somewhat stable, with the CTP there is not such guarentee.

    David, I was so early to post this mail that the binaries hadn't completely propagated across all the release servers; you caught me out! It should be up there now - try again.

    MrLinx, I'm sorry you're experiencing problems. BTW, you don't need to use this uninstaller unless you're unable to manually uninstall a previous release of WinFX. Please send me mail if you've got any additional details to offer and I'll route it to the WinFX setup team. Thanks, Tim

    Up until now I just had a problem, I was trying to animate a rectangle on the Loaded event and it didn't move :S I'm still unsure why. But this release shows you're going in the right direction. Good work :)

    That's a good question, Niels. I don't think we've released the 64-bit version externally for this CTP. Let me check what the plans are for 64-bit drops and post back here. Stay tuned!

    Yeah, great job getting it out but it's not up on MSDN subscriber downloads and it probably should be.

    I see September's in there for WinFX (under Tools, SDKs, DDKs), but that's it.

    Tim, did I understand that on Dec 16th MSDN would make a new WinFX CTP available as well as an early version of Cider and Sparkle?
