A DevOps Hackathon Coming to Munich

Register now! There are two cross-platform DevOps Hackathon events available which last two days each; one in Munich, Germany (May 18-19th), and one in Toronto, Ontario, Canada (June 4-5th) between now and end of June. Hack away, learn, and establish new connections with peers!

We’re still in the middle of Microsoft Ignite in Chicago but feel we are on to something. On Sunday, the pre-day of the event, our DevOps evangelists ran the first Microsoft official public Hackathon event for DevOps. And by all means it was a success. We had over 40 attendees and subject matter experts from all disciplines, dev, ops, and biz, for one day in a room to learn and practice DevOps.

Throughout the day teams cranked through a challenge to build a Parts Unlimited app using open source and MSFT tools with Azure as the target platform.  (For those that aren’t DevOps savvy, Parts Unlimited is the company in Gene Kim’s The Phoenix Project)  Team sharing and learning was intense!  No work email or web surfing was going on. All participants, were highly engaged.

If this resonates with you and wets your appetite for an event like that, here you go. I am excited to announce (watched too many keynotes J I guess) that we will take the experience on the road. First up, Munich. The event in Munich will be held in English.

If you missed out @ Ignite, you are invited to join us and your fellow DevOps enthusiasts or newbies!! at one of the next Hackathon events. The rough outline for the 2 days is below.

The topics as outlined in the agenda above will focus on Azure as the target platform. Beyond that you should expect quality guidance and suggestions about tooling and infrastructure but you will NOT be forced to use any particular product or toolset.

Bring what you have, use what you know! Windows, Visual Studio, Eclipse, Chef, Docker, Grunt, Gradle, Jenkins, DSC, PowerShell, … the options are almost endless.

It is also worth noting that this is not your typical Death-By-PowerPoint event. You will be challenged.

    @Sachin
    Thank you for the suggestion. We certainly think it will make a lot of sense to come to places in India. As of today we do no have any plans visiting India. That said, this might change over the year.
    A broad announcement will be made on this blog and elsewhere if we extend the series of Hackathon events.
