launch week: announcement # 3 (RECap of virtual launch)
This morning, Stephen Elop officially launched SharePoint and Office 2010. It was a virtual launch and featured a number of different things. For example, Stephen interviewed a select group of customers as testaments to the business and developer value that SharePoint and Office 2010 (as well as Visual Studio 2010) bring to the table in this release. Chris Capossela then walked through a 20-min whirlwind demo that covered a number of different areas that covered Outlook conversation management, new innovations in Excel (e.g. Sparklines, multi-author editing and PowerPivot), Office Web Applications, new features in PowerPoint (e.g. video insertation/editing/formatting capabilities and slide-deck broadcast), and Win Phone 7. The simultaneous broadcast was very cool as it streamed across desktop, web and phone—the first time in a demo I’ve seen the three screens and the cloud come together.
This day marks the culmination of a lot of preparation and work across a number of teams at Microsoft. Office and SharePoint 2010 are super-exciting products and a significant evolution for the end user, IT Pro and the developer. Now that the products are officially launched, the fun will really begin.
