Translation Wiki

One of our goals is to expand the availability of relevant technical content to a wider, global audience of developers.

The MSDN Wiki team (I blogged about their beta release in June) recently added a section to their site that provides a huge amount of new content for Brazilian developers.

The Brazilian Portuguese Translation Wiki is pre-populated with machine-translated Brazilian Portuguese versions of the Visual Studio 2005 and .NET Framework 2.0 documentation. Computer science students from Pontifícia Universidade Católica and Instituto Tecnologico de Aeronautica helped improve the quality of a portion of the content by tech reviewing and post-editing the most popular topics after they were machine translated. Brazilian customers can edit the content directly to improve further the quality of the translation. They can also add community content in a separate section to expand upon the Microsoft-authored content.

I am glad to see us providing this new site for Brazilian developers. Two years ago I had the opportunity to travel to Sao Paulo for the Imagine Cup 2004 finals and the Brazilian PDC. I was impressed with the level of enthusiasm and commitment of the Brazilian developers I met during my trip. The Brazilian developer community is clearly a thriving and growing community. I do hope that this site will contribute to the momentum by making Visual Studio 2005 accessible to a wider developer audience in Brazil.

Based on your experience and feedback with this translation wiki, the MSDN Wiki team will explore providing a similar experience for other languages in the future. Brazilian developers and others who check out the site, please let the team know your feedback through their Connect feedback site.

Namaste!
