LiveJournal.com

I check my referrers page most days (well, most hours to be
exact ;-) ) and I always seem to have one or two from www.livejournal.com, so I decided to
check it out. It appears to be a public every-man-for-himself blogging site,
and it has some insane stats, like receiving 153 posts a minute! Argh! No wonder I had to scroll for several hundred entries
before I found the links to my site. Unfortunately most of the posts are in a
foreign language (I'm going to guess Russian since most of the URLs end in
".ru") so I can't really read anything on the site... but oh well. The
Category isn't called "Randomness" for nothing, you know ;-)

LiveJournal also allows you to have RSS feeds in your "friends" pages, so at least in theory a user could subscribe to every single blog on GotDotNet. ;-)

Another aspect of LiveJournal is that the demographic of their 500,000+ users is, mmm, orthogonal with, say, GotDotNet. Not completely-completely, but as another commenter commented, it's really used much more for journals, in the olde tyme sense of "diary" than for ordinary blogfare. Or to put it another way: a large percentage of users are teenagers. :-)
