Share and Find Code Snippets with CodeSwap
UPDATE: Only works with VS 2002.
I think this kind of thing is pretty cool. The CodeSwap tool lets you easily share and find code snippets for use right from the VS .Net IDE. I hope they release a version that compliments the new snippet features in Visual Studio 2005 someday.
From the Site: https://www.vscodeswap.com/
Have you written a great piece of code that you want to share? Are you looking for some great code samples? Tap into the largest pool of code samples produced by your fellow developers through CodeSwap, a Visual Studio .NET add-in for the .NET developer community.
The CodeSwap service uses XML Web Services to publish and maintain a source code index allowing Visual Studio .NET developers to easily connect to other developers and search for code using the CodeSwap Visual Studio .NET add-in.
Join the CodeSwap community today to show the world your best code - and gain access to the shared expertise of your fellow Visual Studio .NET developers.

I used this tool with 2k2 and it was great, but could never get it to work with 2k3. They need to update it.Anonymous

Ok, I just noticed this too. (to think I hadn't installed in on 2k3.) (I run SxSxS with 2k2, 2k3, and 2k5. :-) )Anonymous

What happened to CodeSwap. Was support dropped??? I have tried to load it in 2003. Since this didn't work I have searched the internet for how others have resovled the this. All I am seeing is "It does not work in 2003". I am disappointed. Was looking for a simpe way to share code I have written and get feedback.Anonymous

Hello,
Is there any interest in creating a opensource version of this utility?

Greg: It's something we've kicked around as an off cycle project here.Anonymous

Ok, has anyone asked http://www.vscodeswap.com/ for the source? SOunds strange but when companies drop support for new releases sometime their willing to release the source as well. They might be community minded and just don't have the time to continue supportAnonymous

No, I don't think anyone has yet. The strangeness, in this case, is that they also run the webservices that the client leverages.Anonymous
June 01, 2004
Yes, the webservice adds another level of complexity. Couldn't GOTDOTNET.Com run the webservice (i'm sure MS wouldn't mind too much, all in the name of furthering there development enviroment)
Mind you the commercial side of me is saying this would be a wonderful way to make money. Free development tool , whenever you run it it downloads advertising which is displayed . If you register advertising is removed. It a model that has worked for a long while. And all that is required is a web site that runs ASP.NETAnonymous

Greg: This is spawned and internal discussion of possibly hosting a service like this on MSDN. I'll keep people informed on my blog. My guess is that the timing would be something like in time for whidbey shipping so we could sim ship and add-in that took advantage. (This is if I have my way of course. No promises, since I'm just one fish in the ocean over here.)Anonymous
