Issues, issues, issues...
I wanted to let all of you know that we are listening, collecting, and discussing the issues and problems some are having with FSX. Our highest concerns are performance issues and activation issues.
I know there were some specific activation problems in certain areas of the world that should now be sorted out. That doesn't remove the pain many of you have gone through or are unfortunately still going through, but it should get better and not worse from here on out.
As for performance, with the dedicated help of many smart people in the community, a lot of users are now finally enjoying FSX with acceptable performance. However many are not enjoying acceptable performance and we are deeply and profoundly aware of this. I wish I could say something other than the company lines we have already said, or provide definitive timelines on when you could expect us to directly address all or even some of the issues, but I can't. I can tell you we are working on the problems to the best of our ability. Also, fsinsider will be posting a detailed article about performance targeted at beginning users and experienced users alike with suggestions and some answers to common questions we are getting and reading about. Hal is writing this right now and hopes to have it posted very soon so look for it.
I must remind readers that I am not a super technical team member, so I can't likely answer many of your system or perf questions on this blog or in e-mail, but hopefully this article will help and if not, maybe Hal can provide some help on the forums or on his own blog.

Thanks for the suggestion about the registry cleaner, unfortunately, I've tried everything you suggested and still end up with the same error messages. I suspect that this problem is related in some way to hidden file changes that were made as part of the overly agressive copy protection that appears to have been implemented in FSX. Since I'm not a hacker, I guess I'll just have to wait until MS comes up with a solution. It's a little discouraging that I'm sure there are a large number of people out there using pirated copies of the program without a problem and people who actually paid for their copies, can't even install it. I've reinstalled FS9 (also paid for) so at least I can do some flying while I wait for a solution.Anonymous

the best thing will be to delete everything manually (which includes the main FSX folder, the App data folder etc), and run a registry cleaner to remove the registry entries (should do it automatically as the registry keys will no longer be valid for fsx). Then try a re-install.Anonymous

Ever since Compuserve every new release of FS has invariably invoked a stream of comments, remarks, complaints and discussions.... unfortunately many people seem to have trouble remaining reasonable and polite. It always amazes me how emotional they get about all this, and how aggressive an environment we live in today. I won't deny that FSX has more than its share of start-up trouble it seems, aggrevated by the (missing) link to Vista and DX10, but at the same time most of the sort of problems we see today are in essence the same as those going to FS2004, FS2002, FS2000, FS98 and so on. Most of them, too, WILL be solved one way or other. I just wish people could be more civil in their (of ten justified) criticsm, and also cut developers and supporters some slack.... it takes time finding a solution to solve any given problem.Anonymous
