Call History Per Contact

In WM6 we did a bit of work to make it easier to track your call history with a particular person.  So, in addition to being able to see your entire call history you can now get individual call history from your contact card.  This is a feature I'm particularly fond of, so I thought I'd point it out and run through the details.

You find this feature in the contacts card of someone you've called or who's called you.  Just under the header you'll see a new field that says "Last Call".  This field gives you information about your last phone communication with this contact:

  • The time of the last call, or the date if it wasn't today
  • The number that was used - in case your contact has multiple numbers like mobile, work, home, etc...
  • The direction of the call in an icon - outgoing, incoming, or missed

If you action on this new field you'll be taken to a list of all your phone communication with the contact.  More recent communications are at the top and each one indicates all the information shown for the "Last Call" plus the duration of each communication.  From this list you can delete individual call logs, delete all call logs, or of course call someone back if you are feeling more generous :)

If you are trying to find out how many times your mom called you last week this would be the way to go, and you can even get to it from the call history list by actioning on a particular call to bring up the contact card.  Of course you can still see your full call history from the dedicated app with calls to all contacts sorted by time.  There you can filter for missed, incoming and outgoing calls as well.

I'm not sure I fully understand the question regarding the last month's call history, but I'll give some additional details that will hopefully help. If what you are looking for is the entire call history with all contacts for the last month you should check out the call history application.  This is the same as in WM5.  It likely can be accessed either through your program list (start menu) or from your dialer.  I believe the entry point depends on what sort of phone you have.  From here you'll see all your calls from the recent past.  The list is bounded by the number of entries rather than the date.  When I look at mine it goes back about 2 months but it may be different depending on how much you use your phone. If you are looking for all of your calls with a particular contact for the last month then the Call History Per Contact entry point I described would be the one.  The data for that is taken from the same source as for the call history application so you won't find any more calls to that contact in one location than the other.  When I look at my most called contact I see nearly 80 calls which covers the last two months for me. Hope this helps!

I notice that if I don't dial the area code when I make a call, the call appears in Call History without the conatct name.  For example, I live in area code 707 and let's say my home number is 555-1212 and I have itinmy Contacts as "Home".  If I dial 707-555-1212 I see the call in my call history as "Home" followed by 707-555-1212.  But if I just dial 555-1212 I see 555-1212 in my call history with no contact name.  I didn't have this problem in WM5 but my new phone has WM6.1 and it has this problem.

That isn't expected as far as I know.  Do you happen to have any other contacts with that phone number (without area code)?  It is actually possible to configure the device to require more digits to form a "match" but it seems unlikely.  When you type in the number (before you dial) do you see the contact coming to the top of your list?  If you select it and call it should definitely recognize the contact name.
