Classic Arcade Games @ MS

You may have heard that there are video arcade games scattered around MS, that "all set to run for free!".  Here's the inside scoop... Well it is true, however, some breakrooms/kitchens have a better supply than others.  When I was in building 41, there weren't any on my floor.  :(  In my current building, 25, we have a few on my floor, but only 1 game is in working condition, classic Tetris.

What sprung this post was that today I brought my little portable microcontroller electronics repair/experementation kit and fixed the machine's 2nd player controls.  Now we can play head-to-head, much more fun!

My buddy Cullin Sauls in IE, building 2, has one of these awesome mutli-game consolesdazadi.com has a lot of these consoles, and Brookstone has a wide selection of classic arcade game consoles.

The best way to go is probobly making your own with a PC!  I've seen for years people doing this, but didn't anyone who has done it, till now.  Richard Cook, an SDET on my team, built his own machine!  He built the wood frame, light-up headboard, put a PC in, used the MAME emulator, authentic controller buttons, and has 100s (or 1000s) of games.  Check it out on his blog.

Here's a photo of our archade games (only Tetris is working).  They're fun to play while heating up lunch.

Want to play fun little "casual" games online?  Here are some sites:
playarcadegame.us,  shockwave.com, popcap.com, gametap.com, lego.com games, mindclip.com, games.yahoo.com, freeonlinegames.com, games.com, hotgames.com, zone.msn.com, freearcade.com, riddler.com, java.com games, gamehouse.com, uproar.com, arcadegamesonline.com, 1980-games.com, addictinggames.com, flasharcade.com, 2flashgames.com

I don't actually have the time to play these, but if you have a favorite site, leave a comment and I'll add it and bold it.

Great blog.  That's a real bummer all those arcade machines are broken and being unused.
