100% open source is available? Does that include GWES source that was removed in CE4.1, and not shipped with CE4.2 either? I haven't looked for it in CE5, since we haven't gotten to those sorts of bugs yet. Also, if we are able to modify all of the code and sell it as our own, what does the warning in CE5 that gives the warning about changing private code, and that code has to be reset back to the default before shipping? Can I ignore that warning? Or I am just confused with the names that Windows Embedded CE is a new product, and CE5 is something different?Anonymous

CE 6.0 ships 100% of the kernel in shared source - this can be modified, rebuilt, and distributed with your device. there are two levels of shared source supported on CE 6.0 - the "Shared Source" that ships with the Eval product and the Full product, and "Premium Source" which gives you access to more of the operating system source. More information about the shared source programs can be found here - http://www.microsoft.com/resources/sharedsource/Licensing/Windowsce_premium.mspx

Ah, I hadn't seen the 5000 devices a year requirement - we typically sell just under that, so we aren't eligible to get the source code. I think that should be made more clear whenever you guys talk about "100%" source. I assume when you say "more" in your second sentence, you mean "all", right? Otherwise, it isn't exactly 100%...Anonymous

there's 100% of the kernel source in the "shared source" and "premium source". Premium source isn't 100% of the operating system, there are portions of the o/s that are licensed from 3rd parties for example which are not included in the premium source package.
