WM6 not WM6.0 *shake fist*

Just wanted to clarify the naming convention for Windows Mobile. "Windows Mobile 6" is the official name for the latest version of Windows Mobile, not :

    • Windows Mobile 6.0
    • Windows Mobile 6.x
    • Windows Mobile Six
    • Pocket PC 6
    • Smartphone 6
    • Microsoft Phone 6
    • Windows CE 6

(incidentally, "Windows Embedded CE 6.0" is the official name for the latest version of Windows CE)

it's "Windows Mobile 6" or WM6. Like a friend of mine used to say, "just 6"

Those naming choices are rather confusing! On CE we had CE.net 4.0 CE.net 4.1 CE.net 4.2 then... CE 5.0 And people asked me if that means that the OS no longer support the .NET Compact Framework (after I spent some time explaining that 4.2 supported the Compact Framework and not the Framework!). Now we have Windows Embedded CE 6.0 and putting the "Embedded" tag is a good idea to explain that this is not a "desktop" OS (some people, even in the newsgroups, asks if they can "install" Windows  CE on their PC or on that old 386 portable), but creates some confusion with "XP Embedded". And also the different "numbering" of PocketPC, Windows Mobile, Smartphone, Auto-PC etc. adds some other issues and sometimes it's difficult to understand, for example, if your .NET CF 2.0 based application will be able to run on a device. And very few people know what does CE means! :)
