Free SP2 CDs are starting to arrive
Joe Wilcox of Jupiter Research has previously taken us to task for not doing enough to get SP2 into the hands of consumers. Thankfully, there's a happy ending to the story:
Last Thursday I ordered a Windows XP Service Pack 2 disc, mainly to see how long delivery would take. When I ordered, Microsoft's website said delivery would take four to six weeks. The CD arrived just a few minutes ago by U.S. Postal Service and stamped "Time Sensitive Material." As I blogged yesterday, four to six weeks is just too long to wait.
Rule one of good marketing: Always underpromise what a product can do, or in this case overstate delivery time. Quick delivery makes for a good customer experience and shows Microsoft's security seriousness.
