All good things must come to an end

This is an excerpt from a mail I sent out internally today:

The sands of time seem finally to have run their course. On September 1 I will not only celebrate the 5-year anniversary of my time here at Microsoft but also my departure from the company. On September 5 I start a new job as Principal Security Program Manager at Amazon.com.

This was a very difficult decision for me and has taken a long time to make. All in all, I have had a great five years to look back at. So much has changed in security at the company since I came here. It has been a remarkable ride to see the turn-around and having been able to play part of if for this long. The hardest part of this transition will be not being part of this ride any longer and not being able to work with all the great people I have worked with here.

I will not be leaving Seattle, nor security. I will have a new blog by the time I leave. The exact location will be announced in here as well as on the Protect Your Windows Network site: https://www.protectyourwindowsnetwork.com once I get it set up.

I've been a big fan of your presentations and papers throughout the years. Without a doubt I migth say that a lot of knowledge and commen sence I gained over the years with regards to IT security can be tributed to your work.

This will be one of the biggest losses that Microsoft will face ... who cares Bill is leaving .... Jesper will no longer feed our brains...:((

Thank you for all those papers, good advice ... good luck in your new appointment ... sure makes it easier to get your book(s) sold ;-)

    Greetings,

    Stefan

Thanks for all that you've done, said, written, wrote, etc., Jesper. You will be missed by all of the Security MVPs.
( Even if Security is their "secondary" competencies ;)

Wow I think this aweful news for MS. Jesper is totally awesome, and his insight to security issues is amazing. I always like his TechED sessions plus his books. He's also a joy to talk with in person, as I have on a couple of occasions. I don't think MS can replace a guy like him. Amazon got a huge asset! I don't know if MS security will be the same without him. If Steve Riley leaves then I think MS is doomed...

Congrats, Jesper.  I hope the people at Amazon prosper as much from your contribution as we in the Microsoft community (customers and staff) have.
