The Next Generation of Windows CE

Today at Computex, Steven Guggenheimer, our CVP here in Microsoft OEM, announced the availability of the Public Technology Preview for Windows Embedded Compact 7, the next generation of operating system from Windows Embedded!

This version boasts lots of new features to help create very rich, connected devices, such as ARM based Slate devices, and brings the next version of our Silverlight Embedded UI/UX development environment for CE.

Other notable features is the integration of the FULL IE7 engine to the operating system, allowing for things like Full Adobe Flash 10.1 support.

Mike posts more about it over on his blog.

Go get it now! You can sign up for the Community Technology Preview here.

Of Course, you can also follow our twitter feed (@MSFTWEB)

Great Job, team… look forward to more cool things to come! beer

Is it true that these devices do not support .net develoment (neither silveright nor wpf)??? Why not? Microsoft does such a great job creating "one development platform for each device" (windows, surface, windows phone, xbox, etc), what is the reason for not supporting these "tablet sized devices"??

Did you realy mean the complete IE7 engine? Why not the IE8 engine? With this step the internet will never get rid of old browsers.
