Government Cloud Computing Commission Formed

I saw a brief article this morning on the Washington Post site about a government related cloud computing commission being formed to help provide recommendations to the federal CIO, Vivek Kundra, and the commerce secretary, Gary Locke.

The Post story touches on the U.S. federal government’s ‘cloud first’ policy, which I previously blogged about here.

Included in the story is a mention that Dan Reed, Corporate Vice President of technology strategy and policy in Microsoft Research, will be part of the commission as well. Dan has been involved for years in a variety of government related committees and councils, including the President’s Council of Science and Technology Advisors and President’s Information Technology Advisory Committee. You can see a brief video (about 4 minutes) with Dan on cloud computing here:

The article goes onto say that initial recommendations to Kundra and Locke should happen in June or July. Will be interesting to see what this collective group provides.

As always, let me know if you have any comments or if you’ve looking for more information on what Microsoft has to offer businesses, check out the Cloud Power site.
