Dvorak and why you shouldn't bother
Last week Jensen Harris had a pro-dovak post. I am on parental leave, and just got around to reading it. As another Dvorak typist, I figured I would post as well. I have a very similar story to Jensen. I also learned Dvorak shortly after coming to Microsoft, and I also learned Dvorak to combat occasional wrist pain.
Having typed Dvorak for over five years (including this post), I have come to the conclusion that people should just stick with what they know. I am a bit faster. My wrists no longer hurt, but I think it was stress, not Querty, that caused the problem. However, neither of these out weigh the pain. I have to hobble my way through Querty (I have to look at the keys now). No one can type correctly on my computer, and no one knows how to switch it. All of this would be easier if the OS had better support -- I am guessing that there is some scenario where it is useful to have per-window keyboard layout, but switching between Dvorak and Querty is not one of them.
On the other hand, the inconveniencies are not enough to make me want to re-learn Querty.
